BRISTOL HINDU YOUTH FORUM
Bristol Hindu Youth Forum started in 2009 by vibrant group of people meeting with the aim of bringing the community together and enriching the experience of our inherent culture within the community. The forum is still new, and we are still developing. Since the launch of the forum we have organised and participated in a broad range of activities and events for members across the community and celebrated various festivals - Janamashtami and Holi etc.
Activities at glance
Karaokee night: This was the first event organised and widely attended and enjoyed by people across community. People sang songs of their choices with audio-video presentation of bollywood hits from across the decades. This event was concluded with delicious food and raffle.
Holi Celebration: Festival of colours to celebrate spring and triumph of divine powers over evil forces. This is one of the most well attended and most enjoyed events organised by BHYF with the help of Students of Bristol and UWE Universities. As word spreads, year on year this event gets bigger and better.
Family fun evening (summer barbeque) – A fun packed event widely attended by people and very entertaining as well. People played one minute games, sang karaokee songs, won raffle prizes and finally had traditional Indian food in the back yard of the temple on a warm sunny evening.
National Sewa (service) day : This event is organised by Sewa UK and participants are various organisations like ours from across the country. Last year was the first time NSD took place in the UK on a nationwide scale and was commended by the Prime Minister and acknowledged in the House of Commons for encouraging people to volunteer in this way. The aim of NSD is to give our time to bring a little joy where none exists, to relieve hardship and poverty, to help the environment. Bristol Hindu Youth Forum participated in November last year by distributing hundreds of food packs and drinking water for homeless people living on the streets in Bristol. Participating in this way gave us a sense of satisfaction for giving something back to community. We will be taking part in this year’s National Sewa Day which will be taking place in September. With on-going planning to do more things on bigger scale please watch out for next round of communication to join us.
